Question of the Week - Surprise Me

Since writing that post about how we look on the outside might not be what is going on in the inside, I was thinking about what we don't show the world. Things about ourselves that would surprise people who you see every day or who haven't known you that long.

So the question of the week is:
What is something you like or are into that would surprise the people you see everyday but don't know you that well?

For me, it's not that I'm a total sci-fi geek or that I love romance novels. Those things might be surprising to people, but if you know me longer than a day, you know those things about me. What really seems to surprise people when, or rather if, they ever discover is that I love the Sex Pistols. I'm actually a big fan of punk rock, but the Sex Pistols is IMO the epitome of punk rock. I love putting on my headphones and turning up my iPod and rocking out to the yelling for anarchy.

This surprises a lot of people, because I guess I don't seem like the type of person who would be into punk rock. I wear suits to work, work for a large company in the IT sector, and am pretty good at my job. I am pretty easy going and outgoing. I am chatty and happy. But ever since high school, Johnny Rotten, punk music and the Sex Pistols has simply spoken to something inside me... We'll just leave it there.

How about you? Tell me something surprising about yourself.

That I majored in Indonesian Lit and Language at Uni ( Oh, sooooo long ago, can't even remember how to count to 10). This seems to surprise Italians more than most probably due to its remoteness from Italy.

That I'm a vagabond ( or at least I was till I met Lu) and have lived in 7 different countries.

I love them too!!! I have the l.e. gold cd. LOL.
What people don't expect from me could probably fill a book.
But for me, it's probably that I can read tarot, used to do it in college for spending money.

I suppose the one that gets the biggest response is that I belly dance. Even though it has gotten more popular recently, it still raises a few eyebrows.

I don't know, I really don't. Some might find it surprising that I once traveled around seeing Phish concerts but that's really not a stretch if you really know me.

Some might find it surprising that I was a total stoner during high school and college, but again if you really know me not so much.

I suppose knowing those things that it could be somewhat surprising now that I rarely drink and wouldn't even think of smoking pot now.

Now I just feel old and boring though. :P

I'm too much of an open book with most people I meet. I'd say most who know me, know that I used to go to raves in college.

But what they might not know is that I've travelled as far west as Iowa and as far north as Rhode Island just for a rave (we took buses or trains -- don't worry)! Or that while at a rave in NYC, I accidentally stepped on Lady Miss Kier's foot while dancing. (For those of you who don't know or don't remember, she is the singer for DeeLite.)

The thing that always surprises people about me is that I don't like chocolate.

And before anyone asks, I am neither communist, nor an alien.

Hmm...the thing that generally freaks people out is that I've known my husband since I was 18 years old--an astonishing 20 years ago.

Hmm, I'm a heart on my sleeve, I wonder what could possibly surprise anyone. I guess there's plenty of things people don't know about me, till they spend time around me. The only thing I can think of off hand is that I won a basketball shooting tournament in elementary school, and I was like the shortest kid in the school.

Learning I Have Hypertension

This past winter, I discovered I have developed high blood pressure. This came as a surprise for me, since I generally had always had blood ...
