Cara Mama - What a Day!

Cara Mama,

I really had a fun day today. I had another great day at Little Gym. And after my nap, the Metro ride was pretty fun. I liked Daddy holding me up so I could hang on to the ceiling bar with him. The movement of the Metro was fun, too. I also liked making smiles with Daddy's cousin and wife, who were fun to play with while they were here.

Lunch wasn't so fun. I didn't like the food or where I was sitting. Also, I was so tired, because my morning nap before we left wasn't so great.

Now, I don't know what spies are or why they have a museum for them (or what a museum is, really), but I'm glad you all had a good time. I'm especially glad you rented a backpack carrier and put me front-facing in it while you walked around the museum. The nap I took in the carrier reminded me of how I used to always nap in your (or Daddy's) sling because I couldn't nap anywhere else.

I'm not sure why I didn't feel so well once we got back*. I was so tired and fussy. Thanks for feeding me early and putting me to bed early. I'm not sure how well I will do sleeping tonight. I sure do hope I feel better tomorrow. I'm glad we have nothing planned!

Ti amo,
Pumpkin

*She had a bit of a temperature, but I took it right after a pretty warm bath, so I'm not sure how accurate it was. Also, anyone know what the "normal" temperature is for babies when the temperature is taken rectally?

Pretty sure normal rectal temp is around 99.5.

Aww, I'm sorry she's not feeling well. I never even attempted rectal temp-taking with Al..I just do it under the arm and add one degree. Rectal is most accurate, so you're shooting for 98.6. Hope she feels better soon!

I think it's 98.6

We only do the ear one and it's always the same as what the doctor determines it is so I've never done a rectal myself.

A low grade temp (under 100) can be a lot of things to include teething or just that it's late in the day.

I hope she's feeling better today. You have to check the instructions that came with the thermometer--if it was intended to be used rectally, then 98.6 it is. I have a whole kit of different types and they each seem to have their own rules depending on if you are using them as intended or not.

Well, her temp was oaver 102 rectally, so no matter what "normal" is, she's definitely got something. But as that's her only symptom (and the tiredness and fussiness and not eating well that goes along with a fever), the doctor is not too worried. Apparently a fever that lasts 2-3 days with no other symptoms is going around these parts. If she still has the fever tomorrow, we bring her in to the doc. Otherwise, we are just treating with tylenol and fluids.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I think she's feeling better already!

Oh, but for the record, we were up every 1-2 hours last night. We are all tired. Londo and I are especially upset because this is her first fever. At least she's doing better today. We'll see what tonight brings...

I think the "normal" temperature differs depending on age. I know our doctor said a few months ago (our lil Monkey was 6 months old then) that 101.5 was the magic number when you should call them. You might want to check with Pumpkin's doctor about the magic number for her age group.

Good to hear she is feeling better though! Here's to a good night's rest for everyone!
