Question of the Week - Five Albums

Updated below with my answers.

I'm happy to say that the Pumpkin's fever broke earlier today, and her temperature is back to normal (whatever normal should be--it was 98.5, so that's got to be fine). If she is still without fever in the morning, I will bring her to the babysitter (my mom is out of town, so she is with my niece and the babysitter tomorrow). One thing I discovered out of all of this is that the Pumpkin HATES getting her temperature rectally. She never seemed to notice before, but has expressed her intense displeasure today. I will have to look into an ear thermometer or something.

Because we stayed in all day with the sick child, I actually got a lot of reading today. My book, Bel Canto, is really well written with an intriguing story. One of the main characters is an opera singer, and a lot of the book centers around music. It's making me yearn to go to an opera! Londo and I went to one about 8 or 9 months ago, our first real outing after having the baby. I do love the opera.

So in honor of my head being full of music, here is the question of the week:
What five albums could you not live without?

I'm actually going to have to think about mine. I know about 3 right away, but I'm going to have to debate the final 2. I'll think about it and post mine later.

How about you? What would yours be?

Update:
After much back and forth, I've finally finalized my list. In no particular order, my five are:
-Tidal, Fiona Apple
-Rubber Soul, The Beatles
-Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy, The Refreshments
-Billie Holiday Sings Standards, Billie Holiday
-High Fidelity soundtrack from the movie, various artists

This was a crappy question. It was much to hard to decide. How could I cut Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Janis Joplin from the list? It was so hard to pick between Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald! What about the Sex Pistols? What about John Mayer and Norah Jones? Five was much to small. I see that now. But there is my list none the less.
Update over.

Mozart's Requiem--study music. Always seems to help me understand and retain what I read. I'm not sure why, but that's why I need it.
Karl Orff's Carmina Burana, as recorded by my sister's high school orchestra--not only is it kind of a sentimental thing, but I love Chorales. Plus, the so called "best" recording by Ricardo Muti has too much variation in loud and soft to actually play on a normal stereo without the forte sections blasting out the windows.
Rammstein, Mutter--headbangy greatness
Remy Zero--Golden Hum
The Pixies--trompe la monde

I can narrow it down to ONE. Jeff Buckley's GRACE. I love it so much even if it's 10 year old. Have bored my friends senselss at dinner parties with it over the years.

The other 4:

2.Sunnyboys (by the phenomenal Aussie band of the same name, 1979)

3.The Jaws of Life (another Aussie band, Hunters and Collectors, early 80's)

4. Sky Blue Sky (Wilco, perhaps the newest album I love)

5. Boy (U2's debut album was my first love so will have to put it in my top 5)

I have to say that I have never taken Boog's temp rectally, just couldn't bring myself to do it. I've always done it under the arm or in the ear. We got one of those ear thermometers at our show but I've found it to be quite unreliable actually.

I hear that the temporal artery thermometers are supposed to be the next big thing and I think the price has come down now. (This information is courtesy of my cubemate at work so you know how important that is :P)

As for my albums, that is tough.

1. Cake Fashion Nugget
2. Talking Heads Sand In the Vaseline Disc 1
3. Simon & Garfunkel Greatest Hits
4. The Beatles One
5. The Rolling Stones Let It Bleed

I still feel like I'm really missing quite a bit here but if I have to limit it to five I'd have to say these five I suppose.

Wish it could be ten as well. It makes me sad to think of no Police or Janice or so many many others.

Hmm, let's see. If you had asked me in college I would have known right away but my taste has changed since then.

1. Songs of Faith and Devotion - Depeche Mode (was then and is still my number one)
2. Confessions on the Dance Floor - Madonna
3. U.F.Off: The Best of The Orb - The Orb
4. O - Cirque du Soleil (lame, I know but I love it)
5. Werewolves and Lollipops - Patton Oswalt (comedy, not music but I really could listen to it over and over again, especially 'Dukes of Hazzard', just really good stuff)

Looking forward to seeing your list!

I also have never done a {shudder} rectal temp reading. I guess just the fact that I can't type that without visibly grimacing tells you all you need to know about me.

Hmmm... albums...

No Means No: The day everything became isolated and destroyed

Bob Dylan--but which one?

The Beatles: White album

Goldberg variations--Bach--performed by Glenn Gould (a later version).

Vashti Bunyan: Diamond Day.

Of course I'm going to think of a million others as soon as I submit this, but I think this sampling would cover a lot of the vast emotions one would feel while being stranded on an island.

And Caramama, thanks for stopping by my blog! It hasn't really picked up any speed yet--but I plan to make it more personal after I'm done with the 23 Things program.

I couldn't even touch this one. I would take up pages and pages because there is no way I could narrow it down to five. No way!

Glad to hear the feisty one is doing better!
