It Just Figures

My mother-in-law and father-in-law have come up for a visit. They arrived yesterday afternoon. They are very wonderful, and I'm a lucky daughter-in-law to get along so well with my in laws.

In fact, my MIL is so wonderful that she practically begged Londo and I to let her take the night shift with the Pumpkin. Seriously, she wanted to get up with the Pumpkin, not only to give us parents a break but also because she wanted to cuddle in the middle of the night with her granddaughter. She even wanted to co-sleep with her in the nursery! Who am I to say no to that??

So my wonderful MIL took the monitor all night. Londo and I slept the whole night through without even worrying about noises from the monitor. I do know that if she cries in her room, even with her door shut (our door stays open), I would have heard her. We've had monitor malfunction before, and we still heard her cry. So when I woke up this morning after 6:00 (wooo hooo!!!), I said to Londo that I didn't hear the Pumpkin at all last night. He said he thought his mom was in the nursery with her. We went to check.

Guess what?

On our one night off from night time baby duty, the Pumpkin slept through the night!!!!

Of course I'm glad she slept through the night, and I hope this continues a trend. I miss the nights when she was sleeping through regularly. But really? She couldn't have done that the night before? Or any time last week? Really? The night when we are going to get relief and have someone actually look forward to getting up with her, she sleeps through the night!

Luckily, MIL wants to be on duty again tonight. I actually do hope she sleeps through again, because I want her to sleep through every night. And it's nice to not even be worried about the monitor. If only they were staying with us longer than two nights...

I'm so glad your MIL is up for another night. I think those late-night cuddles can be nice too, as long as I don't have to drag myself into work the next day.

Miss M slept through for my MIL--who was essentially cosleeping with her--when I was in the hospital giving birth to AM.

Then when we came home it was a total regression. Welcome home!

Enjoy it while you got it!

Isn't that just how it goes? I swear they like to make liars of us.

I hope your Pumpkin sleeps through again! I'm with My Buddy Mimi- the late night cuddles are great if you don't have to go to work. My Mom always volunteers for night duty when she is here.

Our Pumpkin always sleeps better on the nights we go away. This last time, though, she woke up and pointed and pointed to her door, so my Mom took her out into the hall. Then she pointed at the door to our bedroom. So my Mom opened it and showed her we weren't there, at which point she started to really cry. Hearing this just about broke my Mommy-heart, until I heard the next bit. She then pointed to the kitchen. Once there, she pointed at the cupboard where the graham crackers are stored. She got her graham cracker, and pointed at the high chair. Once in that, she pulled her bib off the back of the chair and held it out. My Mom put it on her, and Pumpkin settled in and had a midnight (or 2 a.m.) snack of graham crackers, and then she finally drank the milk I'd left for her, then went back to bed and slept the rest of the night.

Let's see what happens Saturday morning at our place. Both hubby and I will be away (first time ever except when I was in hospital with Zoe)and so my MIL will be on duty. Hope Zoe doesn't wake too early either.

Yes, one of the major job descriptions of being a child is to make liars of us! That and drive us batty but make us love them all at the same time. :)

oh yeah Boog had been waking up between 5:30 and 6:15 for a solid week before we went to charleston a few weeks back. The Sun we were gone, he slept until 7:20 for my mom. figures. Luckily that started a trend so here's hoping this is the beginning of your trend with the pumpkin.

how sweet of her to take Pumpkin duty for the nights while visiting! You probably still slept better knowing in the back of your head she would take care of things than if Pumpkin slept through the night and you had one ear open for the monitor.
My mom took care of Cooper part of one night for me when he was only about 2 weeks old and it was such a godsend. That one night of getting 6 straight hours of sleep was exactly what I needed.
