Maybe My Birthday Rule Will Work Next Year

Today is my birthday! Happy birthday to me! I still love my birthday, because each year is still better than the last.

This morning, I told my kids that the rule on Mommy's birthday was: No fighting, arguing, crying*, screaming or whining.

They did all five anyway, of course!

*I actually rescinded the crying part, because I've always said that if anyone feels the need to cry, they could go ahead and cry.

Happy Birthday! Hope it's a good one, even if the kids already broke the rules!

Happy Birthday!

If I could write a birthday rule, it would be that no unbelievably young graduate students and/or recently minted PhDs would come my way for that one day.

Those people make me feel OLD. It has been 10 years since I got my PhD! How is that possible? In my mind's eye, I'm still that young. I hate it when someone who really is that young shows up to remind me that um, no, I'm not. Not at all.

Now, it has been an excellent 10 years, and I have no regrets. But still.....

Happy Birthday! At least it isn't you doing the crying on your birthday. :)

Happy Birthday to you! Hope it's a great day!

I love that you let people cry when they need to cry. It's not an easy thing to do, but so important, especially with kids.
