Happy 3rd Birthday, Pumpkin!

Cara mia figlia,

My darling, beautiful girl, today is your third birthday. Wow. You are 3 years old. How did that happen? The years have just flown by, and each day with you has been a treasure. Each and every day and night, even the tough ones. You constantly amaze me and your father with what you are able to do and how much you are developing and growing.

Over the last year, a lot has happened in your life.

Just after your 2nd birthday, you moved into your new, big girl room. With yellow walls, Winnie-the-Pooh pictures and accessories, and a hand-made wooden toddler table and chairs, the room is really perfect for you at this age and stage. You love to play in your room and even spend time in there by yourself playing. We play dress up with dresses and a doctor's outfit, we play with the stuffed animals, we read books, and we have tea parties and birthday parties at your table. You also pretend to do dishes, play with your baby dolls and their accessories and jump around on your bed. It's a great room for you, and you've been so happy with it since you helped us move your things into it.

The next major thing that happened this year, and the most life changing, was that you became a big sister! At 2 years and 3 months, we weren't sure if you fully understood what it would mean to have a baby brother in the house. We read books and talked about it to prepare. But you were so young and it was such a new experience, we just didn't know how you would take to it. I'm happy to say, you LOVE being a big sister and really have since the day we brought your brother home.

Of course there was an adjustment period and it wasn't/isn't always smooth, but you have done exceptionally well at adjusting to being a big sister and having a baby brother. You loved to hold him and help with him when he was an infant. You are even more happy now that he is able to sit up and interact with you. You always want to make him laugh or play with him, and he loves to watch you and play with you. The bond you two have already formed is one that will be strong and last a lifetime.

This year, you also started pre-school. I must admit, I was a bit nervous. You spent the first year of your life at Grandma's house and the second at our house with the nanny. You had not been in a school/daycare environment for more than the length of a church service. You are very active and full of curiosity and spontaneity. I was worried that going to school would force you to change who you are. I shouldn't have worried. You are thriving at school. You are so friendly and fun--how could the other kids and teachers not love you? And at school, you have found your favorite thing to do: art!

As fall turned into winter, you continued to grow and develop. You continued to enjoy being a big sister and going to school. This was the first year we went trick-or-treating for Halloween, with you dressed up as Belle. You also did great on some road trips down to your paternal grandparents, including Thanksgiving.

You went through phases of sleeping through the night, phases of being scared, phases of separation anxiety, and phases of contrariness common to your age. Your vocabulary and communication abilities constantly amaze us. Your physical capabilities are so advanced. And this year, you have started playing by yourself more, named your dolls and some toys and stuffed animals, and you have started developing stories and making interactions with your toys.

Last month, you were ready to leave behind your diapers in the daytime. You quickly learned to use the potty regularly, and you love picking out underpants to wear in the mornings. You have also been picking out your clothes some mornings, too. You help me get yourself, me and your brother ready in the mornings, and you've started helping set the table for breakfast and dinner. You are able to do so much yourself.

You have been such a joy in our lives. You are simply amazing, my little girl. I can't wait to watch you grow over this next year, and every year after.

Ti amo sempre,
Mama

Cara Figlia - Happy 2nd Birthday

Cara mia ragazzina,

It's been a while since I wrote you a letter, my sweet little girl. But today, on your second birthday, I simply had to write you and tell you what a joy you are. Your father and I can hardley believe you are already 2 years old! We can barely remember what life was like prior to your birth 2 years ago, although I vaguely remember getting more sleep. You have changed our world, and we couldn't be happier.

I call you my little girl now, and rarely refer to you as baby. You simply aren't a baby anymore. You are a tall, strong, very verbal, very active little girl. I hesitate to even call you a toddler, because that implies that you toddle. You run, you climb, you jump, you waddle like a penguin, you hop like a frog... but toddle? Not in a long time.

In fact, you are constantly amazing us with the things you can do, and the things you no longer do. I simply can't believe that 2 years ago you were just a like "a lump of broccoli" as your daddy likes to say. That you couldn't do anything but nurse, cry, poop and be held. A year ago, when you were 1, you could do a lot of things like walk and talk, but not like what you can do now. Now, you put together long sentences with complex thoughts and emotions. You often stun your daddy and me with your creativity and abilities. Although we knew mentally and had seen other children grow, we are constantly hit by amazement at how fast you are growing up.

Allora, mia ragazzina dolce, buono secondo compleanno per te! Ti amiamo con i tutti nostri cuori! Speriamo il tuo anno prossimo siamo ancora migliori!

(So, my sweet little girl, happy second birthday to you! We love you with all our hearts! We hope your next year is even better!)

Ti amiamo sempre,
Mommy and Daddy

Hopefully, you will be easy this week. I'm sure we'll have fun. And I'm sure this week will be full of learning experiences and memories!

Cara Figlia - Toddler Tantrums

Cara figlia,

I love you so much, and you are wonderful, smart, creative and cuddly. But what is with the toddler tantrums? You are giving us a nice mix of the following:
-You want to do it yourself and don't want help, but you can't quite do it yourself so you freak out.
-You aren't comfortable but you are really tired and you don't know what is wrong but you are going to scream about it (we had this again last night).
-You want Mama or Daddy and only that person, but the other person is the one who comes to get you so you flip out. (In fact, you are downstairs yelling for me right now, but I really really need a break!)
-And my latest favorite, you want only the few things that your Daddy and I don't want you to have our do, and when we won't let you have it/do it, you throw a tantrum.

I knew this was coming and had lots of warning about the tough toddler years. But yeowza, this is hard! You are hard! I know it's a phase that you will get through. But then you will be in another phase (probably the terrible twos, oh joy), and then another.

Just remember, I'm only joking when I say we are going to sell you to the gypsies. I hear we can get a much better deal on eBay!

Cara Figlia - 18 Months Old

Cara mia ragazzina,

Last Thursday, you turned 18 months old. That is a year and a half! You are now closer to 2 years old than you are to 1. Time has just been flying by overall. And you are growing so quickly, I feel like I can barely keep up.

You are talking so much, and running and climbing too. You are discovering more and more every day. You are capable of things now that you couldn't do even weeks before. For example, in the past few days you figured out how to put the rings on the toy that you couldn't quite figure out even a week ago. I just know that within a few more days of working on the shape sorter you will have it figured out, too.

Last week, you slept through the night 6 nights in a row! We were so relieved to have a break. We didn't think it would last, since none of the other phases where you sleep through the night have lasted. One was for about a month, but usually it's about a week or a few days. And sure enough, the past two nights you have been awake and obviously uncomfortable and unhappy. So your daddy and I are back to cosleeping until morning. This is not so bad on the weekend mornings, but I hope that you go back to sleeping through the night now that it's a week night. It's just so much easier for Mama and Daddy to get ready in the mornings by ourselves with you sleeping in your crib.

I think it's those last two molars still working their way down. One edge of those big teeth are just poking through, and there is a whole lot more teeth to come out. But once those are in, you should have all your teeth for a while. As Daddy pointed out recently, you've been teething since 3.5 months. That's a long time, and you are not an easy teether!

But you are absolutely adorable and happy and active and fun and funny. You are also fussy and demanding and tantrum-throwing and whiny and frustrating. You have your own personality, your own likes and dislikes, and your own ideas. It's amazing to watch you grow and see how your personality develops. Your personality traits have been pretty obvious to your daddy and I since your birth, but it still amazes us to watch how the world around you shapes your personality even more. I hope we are helping you and guiding you in ways you that you will appreciate.

These last 18 months have been the most amazing and most difficult of my entire life. And they have been, without a doubt, the best 18 months of my life. Grazie, mia carina. Thank you, my little darling. Thank you for being my beautiful little girl, and thank you for a wonderful year and a half.

Ti amo con tutti cuore,
Mama

Cara Mama - No Longer a Bambina

Cara Mama,

I'm no longer a baby. I'm really a toddler now. I don't babble like a baby--I babble like a toddler, with realistic sounds and real words stuck in here and there. I don't move like a baby--I move like a little child who climbs and runs and hits and kicks. I don't even cry like a baby anymore--I let loose with my cries, and more often than not turning it into a real tantrum!

I'm growing up, Mama. When we get ready for bed, I like to stand up on my steps at the sink and brush my own teeth. When we are going places, I want to walk on my own. I want to go up and down the stairs on my own and not be carried. I want to be able to use my spoon myself and get my snacks myself. I want to hold my bottle myself. I want to do so many things myself, even things you say I can't do myself yet. I want to climb on everything and get down myself.

Thanks for letting me do all these things. I do appreciate you being there to help me and guide me. But I also appreciate you letting me try things and stretch myself. I am a toddler, and I'm learning new things all the time.

But I suppose I'll still be your baby, your bambina.

Cara Figlia - Just When We Hit a Groove

Cara figlia,

When Daddy was so busy, you and I got into a pretty good groove. Even though I was all worn out, I think we were doing pretty well. I was with you in the mornings before work, and then I would leave work early to come home. We would play in the afternoons, take walks, then I would cook dinner, feed you dinner and then do the bedtime routine many nights. It was a lot of quality Mama-Pumpkin time.

Granted, I was getting behind with my work, what with leaving early every day. And I didn't have any time for myself, which wears me thin. But now that Daddy is done with his project and we are getting back into the old schedule, I am missing you!

I miss the groove we were in, I miss the pattern we had, I miss spending so much time with you. Especially the time that I don't normally spend with you in the late afternoons before dinner.

Apparently, it's going to take some time to find our old rhythm again. And for me to get used to working full days away from you! But we'll find it again. I know we both missed having Daddy around, so we will be happy going back to the old routine.

Cara Mama - Come and Play

Cara Mama,

I don't mind that you haven't been writing to me. I'd rather you play and hold me and be with me ALL DAY LONG! In fact, where are you right now? Come on and play!

Cara Bambina - A Special Time

Cara bambina,

It's been a while since I wrote you a little letter, but that's because I write them on the weekends and these past few weekends I've been way to busy actually playing with you and doing stuff with you to write. The only time I have to write is when you are napping, and lately I've been so tired that I end up napping then too.

You are a beautiful, fun toddler, but SO active and into everything! That keeps Mama very busy. Daddy's been working like crazy the past few weeks, which means it's been the Mama and Pumpkin Show around these parts. And although that is exhausting for Mama, it's been incredible good to have this special time with you to bond and just be there for you for all your needs.

I'm not sure I would be doing as well if you were at such a great age. We are playing fun games, from chase to singing songs. You are climbing EVERYTHING in site, and since I was a climber myself, I love to watch and spot you. You are really good at communicating what you want and what you are thinking, which is really helpful. You babble like you are telling me some important things while I nod my head and agree, and you also blow raspberries and make other silly noises which makes us both laugh so hard. We've gone to a farm, out for meals, gone to the pool and all sorts of other errands together, where we've both had a good time.

All and all, this has been a very special few weeks for us. I know Daddy is very sad that he's not been able to be around more and play more, but his work will settle down soon and we'll all go back to being together. We do miss having Daddy around regularly, but I think we're doing pretty well and having a lot of fun.

You just woke up, which means it's time for for Mama and the Pumpkin to have some more special time together. Maybe we'll go to the grocery store or do some other errand. Whatever we do, I just know it will be fun.

Ti amo con tutti mia cuore,
Mama

Cara Mama - Routine Re-instated

Cara Mama,

Yesterday was a bit rough for me. It's hard having my routine so disrupted. I had a lot of fun, and I know I was pretty good, but it was hard. So today helped a lot. I appreciate you nursing me and letting me nap a bit extra this morning. I know I was whiny, and thanks for being understanding and holding me when I needed it.

I liked having my godfather and his wife over for lunch! That was fun. I hope you had fun at the movies*. I liked having the nanny here, because she is fun and I'm used to seeing her. I really needed that 2 hour nap too. Can you believe I slept for two hour? Going down to one nap a day really makes me want to sleep longer. Hopefully, tonight's routine will go well and I'll be able to get to sleep pretty easily!

Ti amo,
Pumpkin

*We saw the new Indiana Jones movie, which was pretty good in parts and super cheesy and a bit lame in others. Eh. But at least we went out to the movies!!

Cara Bambina - Good Girl at the Zoo

Cara bambina,

Thank you for being so good at the zoo today. You got to meet other babies, kids and parents and see all sorts of animals. You did get a little half hour nap on the way down to the zoo, but you missed your real nap because we were just too busy being at the zoo. But you were a really good girl the whole time!

The zoo itself was chaotic, being Memorial Day weekend and all, but even through the crowds and chaos, you did pretty well. And you let Mama and Daddy have a good time meeting and talking with the other parents and kids.

Grazie,
Mama

Today was the DC Area Meet Up, which was great! I will do a real write up about it in a few days, but I'm exhausted and brain dead, so I will have to do it later. Thank you to all who came. Sorry it was so crazy at the zoo and that parking was such a mess. Next time, and there will be a next time, I'm thinking maybe we do just a mommy (and possibly daddy) get together for dinner or lunch and drinks. Something where we can sit down and actually talk to each other!

Cara Figlia - GO TO SLEEP

Cara mia figlia,

Oh. My. Good. Ness. You need to go to sleep at night in your crib. All night long. This is really getting to be too much. Your daddy and I are getting closer to needing a padded cell. We need to sleep again. And so do you.

I know it's not your fault. I know you are probably more upset that you can't sleep than we are. I'm sure it's those darn molars. This is exactly what happened before your first molar came through. I know you are in pain, and that is why I will continue to get you. No matter how exhausted I am, I will comfort you while you are in pain. I really believe that if I just wait this stage out, you will start sleeping through the night on your own again.

But we are working on a bit of sleep training, because I can't just do nothing anymore. I have to try something. I even think it might start to work, because just now I had some success. Here is what I'm doing (ideas inspired by Elizabeth Pantley's No-Cry Sleep Solution, which I really love for the fact that she stresses there are things to try between doing nothing and making a baby cry it out):

1. Going to you as quick as I can. When I don't, you get more and more awake, and more and more upset. You are definitely a "tension increaser" when you cry. In fact, last night when I left you crying in your crib for just five minutes while I washed up and changed into PJs, you continued to shudder for 45 minutes after I picked you back up and calmed you down. It was heartbreaking.

2. Trying to get you to lie back down in your crib without me picking you up. This is where the "training" part really comes in. I'm hoping that I can get you to start lying down on your own. Hopefully when you wake up and go right to standing like you almost always do, you will start thinking about lying back down. All on your own, eventually. I hope.

3. Using ways of comforting you that don't involve picking you up. For a while, I've been singing to you or rubbing your back while I'm rocking you. Now, I'm trying singing and rubbing your back when you are lying in your crib (see number 2).

Even though it took forever to get you to sleep tonight, you still woke up after less than an hour in your crib. I went in quickly, got you to lie down, and rubbed your back and sang. Miraculously, you went back to sleep in under 10 minutes!!! I do not think that is the end of our sleeping issues (I don't ever dare to think that), but it is a good sign to me that what I'm trying may work at least some times.

I hope that you can sleep through the night. You had some really amazing naps today--two naps that were both 1 hour and 45 minutes long! You never nap like that. But we slept so little and so poorly last night, that I know you needed it. I just want us all to get some good sleep tonight so we can go shopping tomorrow with energy and cheerful spirits. And by we, I mean me, since you seem to have a great nature even when you don't sleep well or much. But I get grumpy. I don't want to be grumpy tomorrow when I'm finally going to get my shelves!

Mama

Cara Mama - Happy Mother's Day!

Cara Mama,

Happy Mother's Day to you and all moms everywhere! I'm sorry that I slept so poorly last night and am not feeling well today. But at least I'm cuddly when I don't feel good! Thank you and Daddy for being up with me most of the night. I hope I sleep better tonight, because I'm tired and want to sleep too!

Cara Bambina - Molars Suck

Cara bambina,

You poor little girl. You had relief from your teething for approximately one day and one night when your right, lower molar broke through. But now you are miserable again, and I know it's the left, lower molar that's doing it. I know this because you are gnawing on everything (especially your hand) on that side of your mouth, and also because I stuck my finger in your mouth to check the tip of the tooth on the right with no problem, but when I touched the left side you cried out. It must be so tender and uncomfortable.

You are fussy and tired, yet not able to sleep well. You didn't take your afternoon nap yesterday, you didn't sleep well last night, and even though exhuasted, you didn't take a morning nap today. Why is it when you need your sleep the most (to get through these tough periods) that it is hardest for you to sleep? That just doesn't seem fair to you, or to me and your daddy.

Hopefully it is so bad because the tooth is right about to break through. I can't wait until all your molars are through. Although the top two aren't even in site yet. Sigh...

But we'll get through this, and you'll feel better soon. Thank goodness your daddy is back home to help us both out, and in fact he is giving me most of this afternoon to nap and play on the computer and do whatever I want. Tomorrow, your daddy will be helping your uncle and his family move, so it'll be just you and me on Mother's Day. I'm thinking we'll do a little shopping and maybe some baking. We'll have a good time!

Mama

Cara Mama - Fun Weekends

Cara Mama,

You may say these weekends are busy, but I just call them fun! I get to meet new people and see family*! And everyone laughs when I clap and giggle! And I get to run around in new place, either stores or grassy fields! I'm having so much fun, and you know how I love to be busy.

Let's be this busy every weekend! What do you mean it's killing you? I don't understand what you mean by "you don't have the energy." What if I nap at least once a day? I can't promise sleeping through the night, but I will sleep at least part of the night. Surely that's enough sleep to spend the weekend days running around, right?

Ti amo,
Pumpkin

*I just wanted to note that the Pumpkin's Godfather and his about-to-be wife are considered family.

Cara Bambina - Busy Weekends

Cara bambina,

We have had some very busy weekends lately, and you've been handling them like a champ! Last weekend, we drove down to your Grandma and Grandpa's (your dad's parents') Friday night, and you did really well in the car. This was mostly because we left only an hour before your bedtime, and you were able to handle an hour and fall asleep (thanks to a bottle given while in your carseat). You transferred right into the Pack and Play Grandma had set up, and we couldn't have been happier, especially because it was 1:45 in the morning! You slept until after 6:00 the next morning, and that was such a relief.

On Saturday, you played happily in the morning, eat a good breakfast and even went down pretty well for a nap. I was again surprised about how well you transferred into the Pack and Play. I was expecting it to be a nightmare, using the Pack and Play, since the last couple of times you tried to nap in one at your aunt's (my sister's) house you would not sleep in it. But lo and behold, you did great in the Pack and Play! Was it because this mattress was extra soft? Was it because of the way we transferred you? Was it because of the new PJs or the stuffed animals or the blanket? Oh, how I wish you could tell us so we could repeat everywhere else!

After a surprisingly long nap, you, Grandma and I went out for lunch and shopping. Again, you were so good. You get antsy and want to run around, but you are a toddler, so of course you do! The only tough thing was that you wouldn't sleep in the car from the restaurant to the first store (about a 20 minute drive) or from the first store to the mall (a 30 minute drive) or in the mall (even though I tried the front-facing baby carrier, which you've slept in before). You were exhausted, but would not sleep at those perfect opportunities. Instead, after running all around the last store, you fall asleep on the way back to the house. This was only a 15 minute ride, and it was pretty late and close to dinner time.

I had already given up the idea of an afternoon nap and been planning to just put you to bed early. But you were out like a light. I brought you in the house, and you slept through it even though I didn't try to be quiet. In fact, I tried to wake you once we got in the house, but you just flopped against my shoulder and would not wake. So I put you in the Pack and Play and you slept for another 30 minutes! You had a late-ish dinner, bath and bedtime, but you did go to sleep eventually. You did not sleep through the night that night, and in fact we had a tough night. But once again you were a sweet girl in the morning, because apparently you don't need a good night's sleep to be in a good mood, unlike your parents. You had a reasonable morning nap on Sunday, and after playing for a few more hours with family, your daddy and I got ready to get on the road.

We planned it perfectly. You were obviously really tired and ready for a nap. So we left at 3:30, tucked you in comfy clothes into the carseat, and gave you a bottle as we started out. But you didn't want the bottle, and you didn't want to sleep and you DID NOT want to be restrained in the carseat. This is a known issue, but we couldn't leave any later on a Sunday. Your daddy and I simply can't get home so late and go to sleep at 2:00 AM or later on a night when we have to work the next morning. But it was VERY ROUGH to spent 2.5 hours with you crying, screaming, fussing and generally carrying on while I had a headache verging on a migraine. We tried everything, but nothing would do. The only good thing is that it wasn't non-stop screaming. I wanted nothing more than to hold you and rock you and let you out, but we just couldn't. You were great at the stop we made for dinner, and after that you had a decent nap, but it was not easy to get to that point. And the next person who says to me "But babies usually love car rides" is going to get slapped!

This weekend is the wedding of your Godfather, your daddy's best friend. Today, we had the rehearsal and rehearsal lunch. You were simply wonderful! You actually slept most of the hour-long ride up! It was naptime, and you were so tired that you really did just sleep! You were only a little squirmy while I strolled you through Baltimore to the pier for the rehearsal. Once at the pier, you got to run around on the grassy field where the wedding will be (it's such a fantastic spot for a wedding). And run you did! Luckily, one of daddy's friends's wife helped watch you so I could take the occasional picture of daddy and your Godfather and his friends. She has a two year old, so she knew exactly what to do. And she's always fun for me to hang out with and chat with, so while her husband and your daddy are doing wedding stuff, I'll get to hang out with her tomorrow.

At the restaurant, you filled up on bread and applesauce and did not eat any of the meal I ordered for you. But that's okay, because you were happy. And then, you were extra squirmy. But you did really well overall, and I let you run around another dining room which was empty. We had a lot of fun the whole day, running around and tickling and laughing and showing off your animal noises to everyone around. In fact, we did so much, that you were exhausted on the stroller ride back to the car. Once in the car, you promptly fell asleep and slept the whole way back to our house, which is just a dream come true for your parents.

Tomorrow, you will be at your Grandma's all day. This will be her last time really watching you for a long stretch, so you really need to be good. While she's out running some errands, you must also be good for your aunt who is going to be watching you for a couple of hours. I think she's bringing your niece, so you'll have one last day of playing with her before the nanny starts at our house, watching just you. Daddy and I will be gone all day long, and we will miss you very much. But this is an important day for our good friends, and we are so excited for them.

Next weekend is also going to be crazy busy, with Mother's Day brunch, your cousins' (twins) birthday party, helping your uncle and aunt (my brother and his wife) pack and move and baking with your oldest cousin. The weekend after that, we have a lunch and shopping to do for our upcoming vacation trip. The weekend after that, we are going to the zoo to meet a bunch of really fun mommies, daddies and kids! And the weekend after that, we're going to the beach! I told you our weekends are super busy lately. It would really help us all out if you would sleep through the night regularly again. Pretty please?

Ti amo tutti,
Mama

Cara Mama - Then Why Don't You Listen?

Cara Mama,

I like the fact that I am babbling too. It's okay that you don't understand everything I'm trying to say. I know I need to work on learning the real words and how to pronounce them. But sometimes I use real words and I really mean them. Why don't you listen to me when I do?

Like last night, when you were trying to nurse me to sleep, and I kept saying "down." I wanted to get down. I didn't want to go to sleep! I don't care if I was really tired and it was bedtime. I wanted down and you didn't put me down. You did the same thing that time in the spy museum. I told you down, but you wouldn't put me down! Or those times when you pick me up when I'm clearly saying Dada! You tell me "You mean Mama." But sometimes I don't! I want Daddy even though he's leaving the house! He should stay and be with me cause I ask for him.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that it's great you like that I'm talking. But you really should be doing everything I say.

Grazie and ti amo,
Pumpkin

Cara Figlia - Babbling Away

Cara figlia,

Lately, you have a lot to say. You will at me very intently and then talk very seriously. Unfortunately, you aren't saying any real words. But your babbling sure is adorable. Except when it's in the middle of trying to nurse you to sleep or in the middle of the night when you should be sleeping .

You are also saying a lot of real words. You are having a word explosion, and it's incredible to hear. Animal noises and names, mama and dada, shoes and socks, diapers and bath, balls and bubbles, apple and balala (banana). You are saying all that and more. Your pronunciations are not perfect, but pretty darn good... once Daddy and I figured out that your say Bs instead of Ms and Ls instead of Ns.

You are also signing a bunch of new words. Eat and nurse are two signs I had been waiting for and you are finally doing. I can see now that I will have to be looking up a lot more words and buying or borrowing more of the Baby Signing Times DVDs.

This ability to communicate seems to be helping your frustration and fussiness. It's not helping your sleep, which has gone out the window. But at least when you toddle over to the kitchen table and say coocah, I know you are hungry and would like a cracker to snack on. Also extremely helpful has been up and down. I'm actually starting to look forward to toddlerese, a language that has always made me nervous before!

Ti amo tutti,
Mama

Cara Mama - What a Day!

Cara Mama,

I really had a fun day today. I had another great day at Little Gym. And after my nap, the Metro ride was pretty fun. I liked Daddy holding me up so I could hang on to the ceiling bar with him. The movement of the Metro was fun, too. I also liked making smiles with Daddy's cousin and wife, who were fun to play with while they were here.

Lunch wasn't so fun. I didn't like the food or where I was sitting. Also, I was so tired, because my morning nap before we left wasn't so great.

Now, I don't know what spies are or why they have a museum for them (or what a museum is, really), but I'm glad you all had a good time. I'm especially glad you rented a backpack carrier and put me front-facing in it while you walked around the museum. The nap I took in the carrier reminded me of how I used to always nap in your (or Daddy's) sling because I couldn't nap anywhere else.

I'm not sure why I didn't feel so well once we got back*. I was so tired and fussy. Thanks for feeding me early and putting me to bed early. I'm not sure how well I will do sleeping tonight. I sure do hope I feel better tomorrow. I'm glad we have nothing planned!

Ti amo,
Pumpkin

*She had a bit of a temperature, but I took it right after a pretty warm bath, so I'm not sure how accurate it was. Also, anyone know what the "normal" temperature is for babies when the temperature is taken rectally?
